FileCab
Marcus Ray, CEO at Circuitboard Computers and Technology, Inc. (CBCT), wanted a cloud-based system that would cut down on the time spent searching for documents. Like many small business owners, Marcus said it took him “hours to locate documents from a year ago among messy filing cabinets.” Also, on several occasions, Marcus was away from the office but needed a file and did not have the time or ability to run back to the office. He would then have to call the office and hope an employee was able to access the information. Marcus searched for a solution to suit his needs but never found an affordable solution for his small business. Being the owner of a small business technology company, Marcus decided to commission a custom solution that he could later sell as a service to other small businesses at an affordable price.
As the webmaster at CBCT, Josh started developing FileCab in 2008 from the ground up as a secure cloud-based digital file cabinet system. The program is written with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, and hosted on a Kubuntu-based Apache web server housed on CBCT servers. Josh continued to improve the system and develop new features for eight years. Some features include setting advanced permissions for users and user groups, restricting access to certain files and folders, and many other flexible administrator options. FileCab is secure and HIPAA compliant.
Marcus is now ecstatic over how user-friendly FileCab is. He says the program “cut down over 90% of time spent searching for old files.” It is now easy to pull up any previously saved document on any device, such as Marcus’ cellphone, when he is out of the office. FileCab also cleared-out and opened-up new office space since Marcus could remove all of his cumbersome filing cabinets because of FileCab.
