Moving Across Country
Moving across the country is expensive, time consuming, and exhausting. But it is also an adventure. Get in!
It took over a month to prepare for the move. Some of the logistics included budgeting, packing my life into boxes, selling and storing belongings, orchestrating U-Haul and multiple hotel reservations, closing out local accounts; and that’s just a basic list of tasks. The preparations were draining, but before I knew it, it was time to start my journey to the opposite coast.
The first day, I drove for 12 hours. The beginning stretch of the trip took me out of Georgia and through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and finally, onward into Texas. The scenery was mostly trees and swamp; however, Louisiana is a pretty state to drive through. I stopped in Houston, Texas, that night to rest and prepare myself for the second and longest leg of the drive the following day.
I drove for 15 hours through all the rest of Texas and across New Mexico, where I experienced my first US Border Patrol checkpoint. The agents were pleasant and the delay was minimal. I did not get to see as much of New Mexico since most of daylight was exhausted on traversing Texas. Nevertheless, I made it through the Land of Enchantment and arrived in Tucson, Arizona, by the end of the second day. The last leg of the drive was exhausting. I did not have any trouble sleeping that night.
On the final day of the move, I drove for eight hours completing my journey and arriving in San Diego, California. Arizona and California were my favorite states to drive through. The desert and mountains were a very different change in scenery. Extremely beautiful!
When the trip was finally all driven and the move done, I can step back and say that it was an awesome experience. I got to see parts of the country that I had not seen before. The weather was great, the traffic was on cruise, and our country is scenic. What an incredible adventure! 10/10 worth it.
